Life at Saddlerock

The chickens that were in Micah's bathroom are all grown up now and we get about 16 eggs a day. We have many different types of chickens and they all lay different eggs. There are large and small, white and brown but they are all delicious.

video

I am very excited to write about our garden that I have created with the kids. we are growing tomatoes, snap peas, green beans, chard (red, yellow and white), kohlrabi, corn, carrots, turnips, beets, radishes, peppers, squash and a few other things I have probably forgotten to mention. This is so exciting because it gets kids to eat the vegetables since they grew them, the bunny also gets some nice delicious vegetables. We picked from the garden in the afternoon and tonight I will make chard sauteed with olive oil, garlic and capers and will add a little balsamic vinager at the end. I will also cut up a few kohlrabi to try raw for snacks before dinner. I can't wait....

Chickens in Micahs Bathroom

We finally built a chicken coop or house as we like to call it and it turned out gorgeous! I ordered chickens at McMurray Hatchery online. We received 1-2 day old chicks last week and have had them in Micah's bathrrom ever since. The chicks need 90-95 degrees the first week and reduce each week thereafter. I can't wait to get them into the coop....do you have any idea how loud baby chickens peep? I thought my kids were loud! Here is a few photos of the chicken coop and baby chickens. Enjoy!

Hike to Saddlerock West

It was a gorgeous day last sunday and the Rosenbergs and a few of the Semlers went for a hike up to Saddlerock West. You could see the valley and the ocean from the top of the mountain. After the great hike we made homemade pasta and drank our favorite "Semler" wine. A perfect end to the perfect day. http://animoto.com/play/sDY0PzdEAPYnvbggpCZ6Ig?autostart=true

Semler and Saddlerock Mural

We are ready to start painting on the other side of our 18 wheeler 53 foot tractor trailer mural. It has been a very rewarding experience to airbrush a mural of our Vineyards at Saddlerock. The first side of the trailer we painted a mural of the vineyards at high noon with bottles of Saddlerock on top of the background. The second side which we are starting this week is going to be sunset at Saddlerock Ranch with vineyards and bottles of the Semler Wines. The kids will be painting on some of the larger portions of the mural. This mural has been a very rewarding experience can you imagine painting by airbrush on a 53 foot long canvas? We are using 3 different size airbrushes for the mural. The first side of the truck trailer will be featured in our Malibu Family Wines ad in the LA Magazine for the November edition. I will continue to post work in progress photos of the second side of our trailer. Check out the vineyards and wines at www.malibufamilywines.com.

Happy Painting!

Saturday Night at Malibu Wines Tasting Room

6:00 on Saturday night in the Santa Monica Mountains in Malibu it was a balmy 75 degrees. Live music was playing featuring the music of Alex Wright. The wine was flowing and just about everyone brought a picnic of salads, cheeses and breads. The night was wonderful. A place to sit out in the beautiful Southern California weather and enjoy live music, Semler and Saddlerock Wines and the kids can play horseshoes, bocce ball or swing on the porch swing. I have found myself going over more and more on Friday and Saturday night to listen to the music and enjoy the company of my friends. The Malibu Wines Tasting room at 31800 Mulholland Highway is an experience not to be missed!

Photos for ad in LA Magazine

One day rest after shooting an ad for LA Magazine. Try taking photos of kids where they all happen to be looking in the right direction at the same time! HA! We had a great time taking photos, eating grapes, climbing on scaffolding and trying to beat the sunset. Currently we are painting a mural on both sides of a 53 foot trailer and it has been quite the experience. The trailer is one that we currently use to deliver our grapes to be fermented into wine and to deliver wine when bottled, labeled and packaged ready for the store.
